Imitation can be just as beautiful as the real thing...
Ummmmm, well almost ;-)
However; when it comes to furniture, imitation can look nearly identical to the real thing.
Now that this end table has been painted you can't even tell what type of wood it is. I think it looks just as beautiful as if I had made over a solid oak table.
I picked this table because I liked all of the beautiful designs and I even liked the knobs (with a little coat of Rustoleum), it also didn't hurt that it was only $10!
Here is the ugly little laminate table in all her glory before her blue paint...
I painted the laminate wood the same way that I do solid wood. I lightly sanded it and applied 2 coats of really good primer. (You will have real struggles painting laminate if you do not prime it first). After the primer was dry I just painted away :-)
I also distressed this piece lightly the same way I would have if it was real wood (just a few scuffs with some sand paper). I also applied a little bit of glaze for slight antiquing.
So what do you think?
Moral of the story...just because you don't have an Angelia Jolie original, doesn't mean it should get thrown to the curb!

It's beautiful!
I actually just posted on this. I tried to paint a laminate table and it turned out horrible- EVEN with sanding. The next morning after priming I literally scraped allll the primer off with my nails and a paint stirrer stick. I ended up using oil based primer and that worked well {but was messy}. Love the table and your angie/octomom comparison is hilarious. I about spit my coffee out. Tnx for the laugh!
Love, Love, Love!! Awesome job! I would *Love* for you to come party today over at Passionatelyperfect.com!!
I love all the things you do. And I love the moral of your post today. Funny. I nominated you for a versatile blogger award today at http://wp.me/p25O5U-gj so that my readers can see you. If you already have one, you deserve another.
Thanks everyone! @ Rasonda ~ What brand of Primer did you use? I used Kiltz and it worked beautifully, but I did make sure and do two good coats :-)
That made me laugh the first picture with Angelina! Great job!
Found you at Happy Hour- Freestyle Friday. Had to click the Angelina/Octomom picture - LOL. Glad I did. Love the end table!
this is SUPER cute. i love the revamp.
thanks so much for sharing!

Ah ducklips. I laughed myself silly looking at the photo of octomom trying her best to put on a pout like Angelina and only managing to pull off looking like she's been kissing a beehive. Thanks for that. ^___^ As for the table, I really love this! It doesn't look like laminate at all and I love the slight antiqued look to it. Those knobs were a really important touch that I think brings this table from pretty to fabulous.
This turned out great! I have a laminate side table I am working on right now. The chalk paint did not stick to it like many others have had success with. So off to get some more primer today and try, try, try again. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks ladies! As for the primer you will definitely be safe if you use an oil base, otherwise if you are using a regular primer definitely make sure that you sand it firstvand I would suggest 2 coats :-)
OOOOh preetty! Love it!
My parents have an ugly bedroom set made of that laminate. I have been wondering what it would look like with a good paint finish and now I know. This gives me more incentive to try to talk them into letting me paint it. Thanks for sharing your technique. I saw your post over at Honey's "Potpurri Friday" blog party.
Gorgeous!! You so would not know it's laminate under there!
Love it! Thank you for linking up to Fabulous Friday at Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust.
Warmly, Michelle
