Tea Light Wall Art

Sunday, October 9, 2011

This is my featured post this week over at moms fun money!

So I was on Pinterest the other day, when I should have been completing one of my other projects, and came across this.  I had no plans to do this project soon, but I knew I had to do it!

I happened to be at my parent's and my dad set out this old piece of wood and I couldn't get this project out of my head...I had to do it right then!  What better timing since the girls were napping and Brian was working?  I could get this done in a flash!

I got right to work and sanded the wood with my electric hand sander and painted it with one coat of some cream colored paint that I had laying around.  I impatiently waited for it to dry and then sanded right over the top again...

Then I took one of these handly little hooky things and hamered it (with the top of my
screwdriver ;-)) right into the back of my piece of wood.

We had exactly 4 large spoons that didn't match the rest of our set so I snatched those up and tried my darnest to bend them...after 20 minutes of standing on it, pulling, pushing, and grabbing every tool I could think of I finally admitted that I was a total girl needed the brute of a man.  Since I was way too impatient to wait for Brian to get home, I walked over and get my dad's help {good thing he lives across the street}.  I thought he could just bend them with his hands like The Hulk, but he had a better idea...

Dad's are the best!  Now all I had to do was hot glue the suckers on my board, piece of cake!

Then I thought to myself, "maybe I should measure them like the fancy bloggers would..."  after measuring and marking for another 20 minutes and finally dropping the tape measure on the top of my bare foot, I just decided to wing it!  There is only so much time when the kids are napping and I wasn't about to waste it.

Now just to hot glue the little tea lights on to the spoons, no problem right?  Well, by this time the little turkeys are up from their naps playing in the garage while I finish my project.  They have their snacks and box juices and this will only take a minute...

Lucky for me, my mom and Aunt walked over just in time to help when fingers were trying to grab the spoons covered in hot glue and my littlest was trying to play jump rope with the cord :-)

I am pleased to say I have no major injuries to report and the finished project turned out great!  It is perfect on our dining room wall!

Wow, I so love this. Especially because I've had my mind working on a pallet fireplace "screen" and I just couldn't put my finger on how to attach the tea lights. What a great idea! I'm pinning it right now.

I made this the other weekend too - love it, but, I've had problems, the spoons heat up so much that they melt the glue (I used a hot glue gun). Was pretty dangerous - do you think super glue would withstand the heat better? The spoons I used were silver
